|MLBPA Press Release|
The Players Trust's City Clinics program is a grass-roots campaign developed by -- and featuring the active participation of -- active Major Leaguers to promote the game of baseball, life skills and education to underprivileged children, ages 6-16, in select cities across the Americas.
The City Clinics program is underwritten by Majestic Athletic, a division of VF Imagewear, Inc.
The Players Trust enjoys the support of the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association's Legends for Youth program in hosting its City Clinics. Children participating in these free clinics receive hands-on instruction from current and former big leaguers in areas such as base-running, pitching, hitting, throwing and fielding. During each three-hour session, City Clinics attendees also participate in a question-and-answer session with active and former players, and receive free T-shirts, autographs and refreshments.
Joining current big leaguers today are former players Edgar Martinez, Felix Milan, Jose Valentin and several other retired Major Leaguers now living in Puerto Rico.
City Clinics also have previously been held in Dallas, Houston, Miami, Myrtle Beach, S.C., Orange, Calif., Philadelphia and Phoenix. The program's next stop is Friday, July 9, when it makes a return visit to Philadelphia.
Major League Baseball Players Trust
The members of the Major League Baseball Players Association created the Players Trust, a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation, to provide resources of caring to those in need by volunteering in causes close to their hearts and encouraging others to do the same. The foundation became the first of its kind in professional sports established and administered by the players. For additional information, please visit www.MLBPLAYERS.com.
