In a recent Players Talk show, Brian Roberts discusses his experience at the recent All-Star Game, his continued comeback from a major elbow injury and what it was like to be coached by his father on his college baseball team.
The Oriole's second baseman made his second All-Star appearance in San Francisco after putting up solid numbers. The Durham, N.C., native stole 27 bases, drove in 27 runs and batted .322 in the first half of the season.
Roberts says that because he wasn't born with the best physical skills, his path to the big leagues was paved by perseverance.
"There was never ever a time when I looked at myself as a sure-fire Major League player," Roberts remembers. "For me, it was just a constant process of continuing to work hard to achieve my goals."
