The Cards used more magic to reduce their magic number for clinching the division to four. Brendan Ryan hit a walk-off single in the ninth and went yard earlier after the ball bounced out of Cubs left fielder Bobby Scales' glove, to back Chris Carpenter's eight shutout innings.
