Bobby Scales hit a pinch-hit homer in the eighth and the Cubs loaded the bases in the ninth, but they couldn't complete the comeback, with Scales and Jake Fox fanning for the final two outs. The lack of support cost Randy Wells, who delivered seven frames of two-run ball but took the loss.
