In his first start in nearly three months, Zach Duke ran into a Cubs offense that is clicking on all cylinders. Duke lasted four frames, yielding five runs (four earned) on nine hits, including three homers. The lefty provided much of his own run support with a two-run single in the second.
The Cubs increased their NL Central lead by flexing some serious muscle against the Pirates, hitting four long balls for the second straight day, with Alfonso Soriano providing two of the homers. Starter Rich Hill was the beneficiary, picking up his 10th victory.
