Lee, who was batting .293 with 25 homers and 86 RBIs, ranks second in the Major Leagues in RBIs since July 1 with 47. He's on pace for a career-high 111 RBIs. The first baseman, who has been one of the most consistent players on the team, has hit safely in 26 of his past 33 games. This is his third 25-homer season with the Cubs, but first since 2005.
The award is presented annually to an active player who demonstrates a passion for the game of baseball and best embodies the values, spirit and traditions of the game.
Each team selects a recipient and the overall winner will be honored Nov. 6 at the Legends for Youth Dinner in New York. Cleveland's Grady Sizemore won the overall award in 2008, and Craig Biggio won back to back years in 2006-07. David Eckstein won the first Heart and Hustle Award in 2005.
