Cubs agree to terms with 21 Draft picks

Ten of club's top 15 selections have signed deals

PITTSBURGH -- The Cubs didn't waste much time inking up some of their Draft selections.

Ten of the club's top 15 selections from this year's First-Year Player Draft have agreed to terms. Overall, Chicago has signed 21 of its 50 picks.

That includes first-round pick (31st overall) Brett Jackson of the University of California Berkeley, who officially signed Friday. The junior center fielder hit .321 with eight home runs and 41 RBIs for the Golden Bears.

Besides Jackson, five other players from the team's first 10 picks have reached deals. They include shortstop Wesley Darvill (fifth round), who has played for Brookswood Secondary School and the Langley Blaze of the British Columbia Premier Baseball League in Canada. Only 17 years old, Jackson is currently playing for the Canadian National Junior Team.

The other top-10 signees are infielder Blair Springfield (seventh), right-handed pitcher Robert Whitenack (eighth), catcher Richard Jones (ninth) and third baseman Charles Thomas (10th).
