Marquis, Soriano shine in spring finale

Righty allows one run in four frames; slugger scores lone run

Mariners at the plate: Gookie Dawkins went 2-for-3 with a sixth-inning RBI double that drove in Adam Jones and put the Mariners ahead. Jones went 2-for-3 with a double, and Kenji Johjima went 1-for-2 with a double and a run.

Cubs at the plate: Alfonso Soriano went 2-for-2 and scored the Cubs' only run off a first-inning RBI single by Derek Lee. Center fielder Chris Walker also went 2-for-2, and Daryle Ward went 2-for-4.

Mariners on the mound: Jeff Weaver allowed five hits pitching the final six innings for Seattle, striking out four of the 23 batters he faced in the win. Horacio Ramirez started, allowing three hits and one earned run in two innings.

Cubs on the mound: The Cubs used six pitchers, with Jason Marquis starting and pitching four innings. He allowed two hits and one earned run while striking out three Mariners. Will Ohman picked up the loss, allowing two hits and a run in one inning. Clay Rapada and Michael Wuertz struck out two batters each in the innings they pitched.

Cactus League records: Mariners 14-20; Cubs 17-13-2.

Up next: The Mariners return to Safeco Field for their home opener against the A's on Monday. Right-hander Felix Hernandez will start against Oakland right-hander Dan Haren. The Cubs begin their 2007 campaign at Cincinnati, with right-hander Carlos Zambrano starting against Reds right-hander Aaron Harang.
