Chicago Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez and Florida Marlins outfielder Miguel Cabrera have been named co-winners of the National League Player of the Week Award for July 18-24.
Cabrera and Ramirez, both All-Star selections, recorded five multihit games and hit safely in each of their teams' contests over the last week. Ramirez is riding an eight-game hit streak.
The Cubs used Ramirez's .515 on-base percentage and 1.133 slugging percentage to post a 4-3 record in the first full week of play following the All-Star break, including a 2-1 series victory over the first-place Cardinals.
Ramirez tied for the league lead with 14 hits and led the league with six home runs. In his last seven games, the 27-year-old batted .467 (14-for-30) with nine runs and 11 RBIs.
Ramirez drove in a season-high five runs July 19 at Cincinnati, then capped off his spectacular week with a two-run home run against the Cardinals on Sunday evening.
Cabrera led the Marlins to a 4-2 record and a pair of series victories over the Diamondbacks and Giants.
Cabrera, who is second in the Major Leagues in batting behind Derrek Lee, led the National League with a .522 (12-for-23) average last week. He compiled a 1.261 slugging percentage, as seven of his 12 hits went for extra bases.
The 22-year old slugger scored nine runs while driving in nine more and hit five home runs, including one in each of his last three games.
