Cubs reduce spring roster to 37 players

The Chicago Cubs today sent five players to minor league camp, reducing their spring roster from 42 to 37 players.
Additionally, the club outrighted outfielder Richie Robnett to Triple-A Iowa. Chicago's 40-man roster now stands at 38 players.
Right-handed pitcher Jose Ascanio and outfielders Jake Fox and Sam Fuld were optioned to Triple-A Iowa.
Two non-roster invitees have been assigned to minor league camp: left-handed pitcher Jason Waddell and infielder Bobby Scales.
Chicago's spring roster of 37 players consists of 18 pitchers (two non-roster invitees), four catchers (one non-roster invitee), eight infielders (two non-roster invitees) and seven outfielders (one non-roster invitee).
