Cubs place catcher Henry Blanco on the 15-day disabled list
Select catcher Koyie Hill from Triple-A Iowa

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs today placed catcher Henry Blanco on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to
May 31, with a cervical herniated disc. In a corresponding roster move, Chicago has selected catcher Koyie Hill from Iowa.
Blanco, 35, has appeared in 14 games for the Cubs this season, hitting .194 (7-for-36) with two doubles and three RBI. He has gone 2-for-3 with walk coming off the bench as a pinch-hitter.
Hill, 28, signed with the Cubs as a minor league free agent in November of 2006 and has batted .304 (38-for-125) with two home runs and 21 RBI in 39 games for Triple-A Iowa this season. He posted a .306 batting average (22-for-72) in May and has gone 2-for-6 as a pinch-hitter.
Originally selected by the Dodgers in the fourth round of the 2000 Draft, Hill has seen Major League action with Los Angeles (2003) and Arizona (2004-2005). He owns a .231 Major League average (27-for-117) with a home run and 12 RBI in 50 games.
Hill, who will wear number 36, will be available for today's game at Wrigley Field against the Atlanta Braves at 1:20 p.m. CT.
