The Chicago Cubs today announced that right-handed pitcher Roberto Novoa has been optioned to Triple-A Iowa. The Cubs' spring roster now stands at 35 players.

Novoa, 27, posted an 11.57 ERA (3 ER/2.1 IP) in four relief outings this spring, limiting hitters to a .200 batting average.

In 2006, Novoa set career bests with 66 appearances, 76.0 innings pitched and 53 strikeouts for the Cubs while finishing the year with a 2-1 record and a 4.26 ERA (36 ER/76.0 IP). Originally signed by Pittsburgh in 2000, he was acquired by the Cubs from Detroit in February 2005 with infielder Scott Moore and outfielder Bo Flowers in exchange for pitcher Kyle Farnsworth and cash.

Chicago's spring roster of 35 players consists of 17 pitchers (one non-roster invitee, LHP Les Walrond), three catchers (one non-roster invitee, Koyie Hill), eight infielders (one non-roster invitee, Tomas Perez) and seven outfielders.
