The Chicago Cubs today announced Peter Chase has been named the director of media relations for the club.

Chase has worked within the Boston Red Sox organization for the past seven seasons, most recently serving as the club's manager of baseball information in 2006. He joined the Red Sox front office in 2000 as a media relations intern before being promoted to a media relations assistant in 2002.

"We are pleased to have Peter join the Cubs organization," said Cubs' President John McDonough. "He is very highly regarded in our industry, and we feel that he'll be a major contributor to the success of our operation."

A Falls Church, Va., native, Chase graduated from Boston University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts in print journalism.

Chase's first day with the Cubs will be Friday, Jan. 19.
