The Chicago Cubs today placed left-handed pitcher Glendon Rusch on the 15-day disabled list with left lateral epicondylitis. In a corresponding roster move, the Cubs recalled right-handed pitcher David Aardsma from Iowa (AAA).
Aardsma, 24, has a 1-0 record and a 5.59 ERA (12 ER/19.1 IP) in three stints with the Cubs this season. He picked up his first win as a Cub on April 24 against Florida, allowing no hits in 1.0 scoreless inning of relief, striking out two batters. He has gone 2-3 with eight saves at Iowa (AAA) with a 3.06 ERA (12 ER/35.1 IP). He has not allowed a run to score in 18.2 innings of work at Iowa's Principal Park this season.
Rusch is 3-8 with a 7.44 ERA (51 ER/61.2 IP) in 22 games for the Cubs this season (nine starts). He has posted a 8.36 ERA (35 ER/37.2 IP) in his starts. As a reliever he has a 6.00 ERA (16 ER/24.0 IP) and has stranded all 11 inherited runners.
