The Chicago Cubs today recalled catcher Geovany Soto from Triple-A Iowa and activated right-handed pitcher Scott Williamson from the 15-day disabled list. In addition, the Cubs optioned infielder Tony Womack and right-handed pitcher David Aardsma to Iowa.

Soto, 23, is hitting .267 (55-for-206) with 10 doubles, a home run and 19 RBI in 62 games for Iowa this season. The right-handed hitter is batting .353 (18-for-51) against left-handed pitching this season.

Originally drafted by the Cubs in the 11th round of the 2001 First-Year Player Draft, Soto appeared in one game for the Cubs last season, making his Major League debut as a pinch hitter on September 23, 2005, vs. Houston. Soto will wear uniform number 58.

Williamson, 30, was originally placed on the 15-day disabled list June 4 with right lateral epicondylitis. He made five rehabilitation appearances, including four with Iowa where he posted a 1.80 ERA (1 ER/5.0 IP). The 1999 National League Rookie of the Year is 2-2 with a 4.22 ERA (10 ER/21.1 IP) in 23 relief appearances for Chicago this season.

Womack, 36, has appeared in 19 games for the Cubs, hitting .280 with a home run and 2 RBI. He was signed by Iowa on May 7 and selected by Chicago on May 26. The left-handed hitter began the 2006 season with Cincinnati.

Aardsma, 24, is 1-0 with a 5.89 ERA (12 ER/18.1 IP) in 18 relief appearances over two stints with the Cubs. He is 1-1 with five saves and a 2.18 ERA (5 ER/20.2 IP) in 15 games with Iowa this season.
