The Chicago Cubs today traded right-handed pitcher Jon Leicester to the Texas Rangers in exchange for a player to be named later.
Leicester, 26, spent the majority of the 2005 campaign at Iowa (AAA), going 3-8 with 1 save and a 5.51 ERA (60 ER/98.0 IP) in 24 games (16 starts). He tossed 6.0 or more innings in six of his starts and had a 3.07 ERA (14 ER/41.0 IP) in those contests. He also saw big league action for the second consecutive year, appearing in six games (one start) for the Cubs.
Leicester, who was selected by the Cubs in the 11th round of the 2000 draft, made his major league debut on June 9, 2004. In 38 career games (one start), he went 5-3 with a 4.80 ERA (27 ER/50.2 IP).
