The Chicago Cubs today agreed to terms with infielder NEIFI PEREZ on a contract through the 2007 season. Financial terms of the two-year deal were not disclosed.
Perez, 32, hit .274 with 9 homers and 54 RBI in 154 games. He recorded 44 multi-hit games and recorded his sixth career double-digit hitting streak, hitting safely in 14 straight games from May 23-June 5.
Perez originally signed with the Cubs as a minor league free agent in August 2004. In 177 games since then, the switch-hitter has batted .284 with 38 doubles, 11 homers and 60 RBI. The utility infielder has seen action in 149 games (130 starts) at shortstop, 28 games (19 starts) at second base and four games at third base.
In addition to the Cubs, Perez has seen major league action with Colorado (1996-2001), Kansas City (2001-2002) and San Francisco (2003-2004).
