Padres conclude 2016 First-Year Player Draft
The San Diego Padres today selected 30 players on the third and final day of Major League Baseball's First-Year Player Draft and 43 players overall in the Draft, including SS Quinn Hoffman out of Cathedral Catholic High School (CA) in the 36th round, son of Padres legend Trevor Hoffman.
Padres acquire RHP Erik Johnson and INF Fernando Tatis Jr.
The San Diego Padres today have announced they have acquired right-handed pitcher Erik Johnson and infielder Fernando Tatis Jr. from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for right-handed pitcher James Shields and cash considerations. Executive Vice President/General Manager A.J. Preller made the announcement.
Padres to honor second Comunidad Awards Winner of 2016
The San Diego Padres will honor the recipient of the second Hispanic Heritage Comunidad Award for 2016 in a pregame ceremony prior to tonight's game vs. the Seattle Mariners. Andrea Skorepa, executive director/CEO and president of CASA FAMILIAR, has been selected as the recipient of the award by members of the Padres' Hispanic Community Advisory Council (HCAC). Each Comunidad Award winner will also receive $1,000 from the Padres Foundation to be donated to the charity of their choice.
Parking, transportation and security advisory for Billy Joel concert
Petco Park today issued a parking, transportation and security advisory for Saturday night's Billy Joel concert. With a sellout crowd expected, concert guests are strongly encouraged to arrive downtown early and enjoy one of the many restaurants and bars in the area. Parking lots will open at 2:00 p.m., gates will open at 6:00 p.m. and guests should be in their seats for the show no later than 7:30 p.
Padres announce 2016 Hall of Fame class
The San Diego Padres today announced the 2016 Padres Hall of Fame class. Former Padres third baseman Ken Caminiti and San Diego native Ted Williams will be inducted into the Padres Hall of Fame this summer: Williams on Friday, July 1, in conjunction with the grand opening of the Padres Hall of Fame, and Caminiti on Saturday, August 6 during Padres Hall of Fame Weekend. The elections were made by the Padres front office in collaboration with the San Diego chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America (BBWAA) and local sports media.
Christine Trimble from San Diego has been named the Padres' Honorary Bat Girl
Major League Baseball has announced the winners of the 2016 Honorary Bat Girl contest, which recognizes baseball fans who have been affected by breast cancer and who demonstrate a commitment to supporting the fight against the disease. The Honorary Bat Girl for the San Diego Padres is Christine Trimble of San Diego.
San Diego Padres and Pedal the Cause expand partnership
The San Diego Padres and Pedal the Cause today announced a partnership expansion that will re-brand the annual cycling fundraiser as Padres Pedal the Cause for 2016 and beyond. The two organizations, which first partnered in 2015, will join forces to make an even larger impact. PEDAL's 2015 two-day cycling event raised $1.3 million for cancer research and treatment centers here in San Diego. Together, the Padres and Pedal the Cause plan to grow the event, increase funds raised, and pave the way for a cure.
