Cubs-Reds rained out; no makeup announced
Slated to start Monday's opener, Samardzija to oppose Simon on Tuesday
CINCINNATI -- The Cubs-Reds game at Great American Ball Park on Monday night was postponed due to rain. After a 57-minute delay, the decision was made to reschedule the game, and the announcement detailing a makeup date will be forthcoming.
There was a 70 to 80 percent chance of rain in the Cincinnati area through 4 a.m. ET on Tuesday. The rest of the week looks good, with only a 30 percent of showers expected Tuesday night and 20 percent Wednesday.
Jeff Samardzija will have to wait another day to try to earn his first win of the season. The ace righty has a 1.53 ERA this season but is winless in five starts. He was slated to face Reds right-hander Alfredo Simon. The two will take the mound for their respective teams Tuesday.
This is the second rainout for the Cubs this season. The first occurred April 15 in New York. The Cubs and Yankees played a doubleheader the next day.
Monday's postponement was only the eighth in the 12 seasons at Great American Ball Park.
