SAN FRANCISCO, CA - The San Francisco Giants have acquired left-handed pitcher David Huff from the New York Yankees in exchange for cash considerations, club Senior Vice President and General Manager Brian Sabean announced today.
Huff, 29, has gone 21-27 with a 5.32 ERA (191er, 323.0ip) in 69 games (54 starts) in parts of five seasons at the Major League level with the Cleveland Indians and New York Yankees. In 2009 he led the Indians in victories (11) and finished tied for fourth among AL rookie pitchers.
The Southern California native split last season between Cleveland (three games) and New York (11) appearing in 14 games (two starts) at the Major League and went 3-1 with a 5.50 ERA (23er, 37.2ip). He was acquired by the Yankees in late May after being placed on waivers.
Originally drafted by the Indians in the Sandwich round (39th overall) of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Los Angeles, Huff owns a 48-27 record with a 3.78 ERA (279er, 664.2ip) in 126 minor league games (115 starts).
The Giants now have 40 players on their 40-man roster and will have 66 players in big league camp this spring.
