Soriano reflects on first surgery
Cubs outfielder will begin rehab on Monday

CHICAGO -- Alfonso Soriano was sitting in the middle of the Cubs' clubhouse Wednesday, still in street clothes while his teammates prepared for their game against the Brewers. That's about all the outfielder can do one day after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left knee."Everything's good," Soriano said. "Today I feel better than yesterday, and I hope tomorrow I feel better than today."
He underwent a debridement on his left knee Tuesday, performed by team orthopedic specialist Stephen Gryzlo. Soriano will skip the Cubs' trip to St. Louis this weekend, but he'll join them in Milwaukee on Monday to begin his rehab and exercises. Right now, the plan is for him to rest and ice his knee.
"Now I can't do anything with my leg," Soriano said. "We'll see -- maybe [I can in] one week, 10 days."
This was the first time Soriano, 33, has had surgery in his career, and he was nervous about the procedure. He was relieved to receive an anesthetic.
"I didn't feel anything at all for two, three hours," Soriano said. "I fell asleep, and I felt like I slept for 24 hours, one day. That was great. [The procedure] was a little scary."
Once the regular season is over, Soriano will continue his rehab at the Cubs' academy in the Dominican Republic. He's expected to be ready to go for Spring Training 2010.
