Cubs to kick off 2010 season in Atlanta

Wrigley Field opener set for April 12 against Brewers

09/15/09 1:00 PM ET

CHICAGO -- The Cubs will open the 2010 season at Atlanta on April 5, and kick off the home schedule on April 12 against the National League Central-rival Brewers.

The 2010 schedule, released Tuesday, will include Interleague games against American League West teams, including road trips May 21-23 to Texas and June 22-24 to Seattle. The Cubs will play host to Oakland on June 15-17 and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on June 18-20. The home-road intra-city Interleague series against the White Sox will begin June 11-13 at Wrigley Field and continue June 25-27 at U.S. Cellular Field.

The Cubs face the division-rival Cardinals at Wrigley Field on May 28-30, July 23-25 and Sept. 24-26, and travel to Busch Stadium twice, Aug. 13-15 and Sept. 13-15. Besides kicking off the home portion of the schedule against the Brewers in a three-game series April 12, 14-15, the Cubs will entertain their neighbors north of the border Aug. 2-4. They travel to Milwaukee for series on April 23-25, June 8-10 and Sept. 10-12.

Most years the Cubs have a West Coast swing that combines stops in San Diego and Los Angeles, but in 2010, they'll skip the bus ride up the California coast and instead go to Arizona from July 5-7 and then Dodger Stadium from July 8-11. The Cubs do not play in San Diego until the next to last series, Sept. 27-30.

The final homestand for 2010 will be against the Cardinals, Sept. 24-26, while the regular season will end on the road in Houston, Oct. 1-3.

This will be the seventh time in eight years the Cubs have opened the regular season on the road. They began the 2008 campaign at Wrigley, playing host to the Brewers.

Game times will be announced at a later date.
