Hill, who turns 29 on March 11, went 18-17 with a 4.37 ERA in 64 appearances (57 starts) over the past four seasons with the Cubs. The southpaw went 11-8 with a 3.92 ERA in a career-high 32 starts in 2007 but went 1-0 with a 4.12 ERA in five starts with the Cubs last season before being optioned to Triple-A Iowa on May 3.
Hill is out of options, so he'll have to make the Orioles' 25-man roster out of Spring Training or be exposed to other teams.
The Orioles' rotation is headed by veterans Jeremy Guthrie and Mark Hendrickson but lacks experience beyond that. Recently signed Japanese right-hander Koji Uehara is in the running for a starting role, along with Matt Albers, Chris Waters, Radhames Liz and Troy Patton, the latter three of whom have combined for 34 Major League starts.
