Cubs past, present to attend convention
Banks, Sandberg among Hall of Famers to appear next weekend
CHICAGO -- Hall of Famers Ernie Banks, Billy Williams, Fergie Jenkins and Ryne Sandberg will join current Cubs Alfonso Soriano, Geovany Soto, Ryan Dempster and newly acquired Milton Bradley at the three-day Cubs Convention next weekend.
Cubs manager Lou Piniella and his coaching staff will take part in the event, which is sold out and will be held at the downtown Hilton Chicago, starting Friday with opening ceremonies.
Bradley, who signed a three-year, $30 million contract on Thursday, will be joined by new additions Kevin Gregg, Aaron Miles and Joey Gathright, who were added this offseason.
Other former Cubs scheduled to attend include Glenn Beckert, Bill Buckner, Jose Cardenal, Jody Davis, Bob Dernier, Leon Durham, Doug Glanville, Randy Hundley, Keith Moreland, Rick Reuschel, Scott Sanderson, Lee Smith and Tim Stoddard.
Among the current Cubs slated to take part in the three-day event are Neal Cotts, Mike Fontenot, Rich Harden, Reed Johnson, Carlos Marmol, Sean Marshall, Jeff Samardzija, Ryan Theriot and Carlos Zambrano.
Fans can get a head start on the winter festivities Thursday at the third annual "Len & Bob Bash" at the House of Blues in downtown Chicago, hosted by Cubs broadcasters Len Kasper and Bob Brenly. Proceeds benefit Chicago Cubs charities.
