It prompted a deja vu moment for anyone who saw Lee and the Dodgers' Rafael Furcal crash into each other at first base at Dodger Stadium on April 19, 2006. On that day, Lee fractured his wrist, and was limited to 50 games for the season.
Lee and Pierre made contact with one out in the third inning, and Pierre was safe on an infield hit. Lee took a tumble but stayed in the game.
"I thought I elbowed him in the face, but he was fine," Lee said of Pierre, his former teammate on the Florida Marlins. "I knew I was fine. I was just hoping I didn't hurt him this time."
The two did a quick check of their respective body parts to make sure they were OK. Lee didn't think about the 2006 collision until later.
"I didn't want that," he said. "It was kind of coincidence, same stadium, same type of play. I was fine. We don't want that to happen again."
Pierre was coming pretty fast down the line at him.
"He's always fast," Lee said, laughing.
