CHICAGO -- Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg will be back in Peoria, former Cub Jody Davis is staying at Class A Daytona, and the Cubs have added former Pittsburgh general manager Dave Littlefield to the scouting staff.

Littlefield, 47, has spent nearly 20 seasons within front offices of Major League clubs, most recently as the general manager of the Pirates.

"We are extraordinarily pleased to add someone of Dave Littlefield's caliber to bolster our baseball operations efforts with the Cubs," general manager Jim Hendry said Tuesday. "I've known Dave a long time and am confident that he will add valuable perspective and another experienced voice to our baseball operations department."

Prior to joining the Pirates in July 2001, Littlefield was the assistant general manager to Dave Dombrowski with the Florida Marlins.

Sandberg will return to the Class A team this season for his second year. The former Cubs second baseman led the Peoria Chiefs to a 71-68 record in his debut season as manager. Rich Bombard, who was the Chiefs pitching coach in 2006, will return, and former Major League veteran Carmelo Martinez will be the hitting coach.

The Cubs also announced the other Minor League assignments for 2008. Pat Listach, who led Double-A Tennessee to a 73-65 mark and a postseason appearance in 2007, will take over at Triple-A Iowa. He was the Iowa Cubs hitting coach from 2001-05. Former Cub Mike Mason joins the organization as Iowa's pitching coach, bringing 17 years of coaching experience with the Royals and Phillies organizations. Von Joshua will return as Iowa's hitting coach for the third straight season.

Buddy Bailey will manage Tennessee after guiding Iowa to a 79-65 mark in 2007. Bailey has been with the Cubs since 2006. Dennis Lewallyn will join Bailey as pitching coach and Barbaro Garbey as hitting coach.

Davis will return as Daytona's manager for the second straight season, his third as a manager in the Cubs farm system. Davis, who played with Chicago from 1981-88, will be joined by pitching coach David Rosario, and former Major League outfielder Richie Zisk will return as the hitting coach.

Tom Beyers will manage Class A Boise for the second consecutive season, joined by pitching coach Tom Pratt and hitting coach Ricardo Medina.

Franklin Font, who played in the Cubs Minor League system from 1996-2000, begins his first season as Rookie League Mesa's manager. Font was Boise's hitting coach in 2007 after managing Chicago's Dominican League team in 2005-06. Rick Tronerud returns to handle pitching coach duties.

The Cubs will run two clubs in the Dominican Summer League. The first team will be managed by Juan Cabreja, and Leo Hernandez will be the team's pitching coach in his 13th year with the club. Ramon Caraballo will be the hitting coach.

Franklin Blanco will manage the second Dominican team, with Anderson Tavares the pitching coach and Lucrecio Vals the hitting coach.
