CHICAGO -- Cubs pitcher Mark Prior and wife Heather celebrated the birth of their first child, Amanda Grace, on Thursday. The baby checked in at 6 pounds, 9 ounces.

Prior, 26, is coming off a disappointing injury-shortened season in which he went 1-6 with a 7.21 ERA in nine starts.

The right-hander was recently examined by orthopedic specialists, Dr. James Andrews and Dr. Lewis Yocum, who agreed with the Cubs medical staff that Prior has "looseness" in his right shoulder and needs to spend the offseason strengthening it.
