LAS VEGAS -- Angel Echevarria hit a game-tying home run to lead off the ninth inning and Henry Blanco hit another to win Saturday afternoon, giving the Chicago Cubs a 3-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners before a sellout crowd of 11,601 at Cashman Field.

Jon Leicester walked Willie Bloomquist with one out in the Seattle eighth, and one out later, Kit Pellow drove him in with a double into the gap in right-center field to go ahead 2-1.

But Echevarria led off the Chicago ninth with a home run off Dan Reichert to tie the game. One out later, Blanco launched a pitch over the left-field fence to win it.

Jeremy Reed scored from third on a wild pitch by Cubs starter Renyel Pinto with two out in the Mariners' first.

Echevarria doubled to open the Cubs' seventh and scored one out later on Blanco's single to tie the game at 1.

Chicago's Pinto and Seattle starter Felix Hernandez were both named the minor league pitcher of the year last year for their respective teams. Pinto did not allow a hit over four innings but walked two and gave up one run. He struck out three. Hernandez threw four scoreless innings, gave up three hits and two walks and struck out one.

There was a moment of silence before the game in memory of Pope John Paul II, who died Saturday.
