PEORIA, Ariz. -- Chicago Cubs pitcher Mark Prior threw off a mound Sunday for the first time since March 10, and continued to make progress in his rehab from inflammation in his right elbow.

Cubs pitching coach Larry Rothschild said Prior threw 10-12 pitches off the mound at HoHoKam Park in Mesa. Prior had not been on the mound since his one Cactus League start.

"He felt pretty good," Cubs manager Dusty Baker said of Prior.

There's good news for Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood, who threw a simulated game on Saturday. Wood, who has been sidelined with bursitis in his right shoulder, had no problems on Sunday. His shoulder tightened up in his start March 9. He is scheduled to throw on the side Monday.

"He didn't say anything [about pain or problems] and had a smile on his face," Baker said of Wood.

Wood was projected as the Cubs' Opening Day starter but will be pushed back in the rotation to give him time to prepare for the season and could be ready for the home opener April 8 against Milwaukee. Baker has yet to announce who will start April 4 against Arizona.

"I've made up my mind," Baker said.

The options include Carlos Zambrano and Greg Maddux, who both won 16 games last season.

"You try to come up with a rotation and you try to come up with balance," Baker said. "You want a guy who can give you innings, followed by a guy who might not give you many innings, followed by a guy who can give you more innings. You try to stay away from a situation where the bullpen is going to be taxed two or three days in a row. That's how you space your rotation."

With that in mind, Zambrano would likely be first, followed by Maddux. The Cubs have not named a fifth starter yet.
