Homers lift Cubs past Brewers
McCain homers twice, Sosa once
By Carrie Muskat / MLB.com

MESA, Ariz. -- Sammy Sosa hit his first spring home run, and Scott McClain hit a pair of homers and drove in four runs to lead the Chicago Cubs to an 8-4 victory Monday over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Sosa launched a two-run homer with one out in the fourth off Jorge De La Rosa, sending fans on the lawn area behind the left-field wall scrambling for the souvenir.

Sosa, who hit 40 home runs last year, said he's almost ready for the regular season to start.

"I feel very good, comfortable. I feel relaxed," he said. "That's a good sign. I don't take long to get ready."

Carlos Zambrano (1-0) threw three scoreless innings, the longest outing by a Cubs starter this spring. He gave up three hits and struck out seven in front of 10,639 at sunny HoHoKam Park.

Matt Kinney (0-1) took the loss in his first Cactus League start, giving up three runs on five hits and one walk over two innings.

Corey Patterson doubled with one out in the Cubs first, Sosa walked and Moises Alou followed with a single to score Patterson. Todd Hollandsworth then grounded out, driving in Sosa to make it 2-0.

McClain, who has spent the last three seasons in Japan, led off the Cubs second with a home run to open a 3-0 lead. McClain added a three-run shot with one out in the third, driving in Hollandsworth and Ramon Martinez, who had both singled.

The loss was the first in six games for the Brewers this spring. Milwaukee tallied in the seventh on Bill Hall's RBI double and a sacrifice fly by Jon Nunnally. Prince Fielder drove in a run in the ninth with a ground out.
