Cubs score in first inning again
MIAMI -- The Chicago Cubs aren't leaving anything to chance in this NLCS with the
Florida Marlins. They are getting their work done early by scoring runs in the
first inning.
Friday, they got on the board in the top of the first inning at pro Player Stadium
on a Kenny Lofton single and a Sammy Sosa RBI-single off the wall, to the delight
of the mixed crowd.
As during the NL Division Series against the Atlanta Braves, the Cubs fans were out
in force Friday with their jerseys, hats and T-shirts proclaiming their allegience
to their beloved Cubbies.
The Cubs have drawn first blood in six of their eight playoff games this
postseason. More importantly, they have scored in the first inning of all three LCS
contests against Florida.
In Game 1, they scored four runs in the first inning on a walk by Lofton, two
triples by Mark Grudzielanek and Randall Simon and a Moises Alou home run off
Marlins starter Josh Beckett.
Game 2 saw them score twice on two singles by Grudzielanek and Simon and two walks
by Sosa and Aramis Ramirez.
The Cubs did not score in the first inning of Games 1 and 4 of the NLDS. The pro-Cubs sentiments were expressed with several chants of "Let's go Cubs" during Chicago at-bats and cheers of put-outs when the Marlins put the ball in play.
