The Detroit Tigers organization, its owners, management, players and coaches are committed to providing a caring, enduring presence in the Greater Detroit community and believe in the need to invest in our community's future.
The Detroit Tigers Foundation is the official charity of the Detroit Tigers baseball club and is an affiliate of Ilitch Charities, a 501(c)(3) public charity. The mission of the Foundation is to enhance lives through the game of baseball with a focus on youth, education and recreation. From ticket donations and field renovation projects to an award winning, State-wide anti-bullying program, the Foundation aids in the development and funding of innovative programs that reach Tigers fans with positive messages and promote the good citizenship embodied in the storied history of the Detroit Tigers.
Since its inception in 2005, the Detroit Tigers Foundation has awarded over $14 million in grants, Tigers tickets and college scholarships throughout the State of Michigan, northern Ohio and southern Ontario, Canada. Youth baseball programs funded by the Foundation include Tiny Tigers, an annual t-ball and junior baseball program for over 600 children and the annual Detroit Tigers Hometown Championship, a year-end t-ball, softball and baseball tournament for over 1,000 youth. This is all made possible through the generosity of the Tigers organization, its fans, players and partners. Support the Foundation's mission today, with a tax deductible on-line donation!
In an effort to support the metro-Detroit community, several Tigers players are partnering with the Detroit Tigers Foundation in a program called Autographs for a Cause. Through this program, players will sign baseball cards through the mail in exchange for a donation to the Detroit Tigers Foundation, the club's official charity. All of the funds collected through this program will be donated to charitable organizations supported by the players. At the end of the year, all of the money raised through the program will be matched by the players and donated to their charity of choice. Below are the participating players, required donations and benefiting charitable organizations / programs:
Fans that wish to participate in the Autographs for a Cause Program should send their baseball cards along with check or money order (made payable to the DETROIT TIGERS FOUNDATION), and self-addressed stamped envelope to the following address:
Autographs for a Cause
Detroit Tigers Foundation
2100 Woodward Avenue
Detroit, MI 48201
Fans should keep in mind there is some risk involved in putting an item in the mail. Although reasonable precautions will be taken, the Detroit Tigers organization, its players, staff and Foundation are not responsible if an item is lost or damaged. Please allow a minimum of six to eight weeks for your item(s) to be signed and do not send items other than standard issue baseball cards, as they will be returned to you unsigned. In order to ensure proper handling of donations and baseball cards, please note items / donations for each player must be mailed individually and not with items / donations for other players. Furthermore, please note Money Orders with expiration dates of fewer than 90 days will be returned along with unsigned items.
Additionally, please note Autographs for a Cause is a seasonal program that concludes each year at the end of the Major League Baseball regular season. Items that arrive postmarked after September 1 will be returned unsigned as the roster of participating players, required donations and benefiting charitable organizations changes from season to season.
Thank you again for supporting the Detroit Tigers Foundation and our charitable programs!
The Detroit Tigers Foundation, in partnership with 101 WRIF hosted a special fund-raising event at CJ Mahoney's in Troy. Tigers pitchers Joaquin Benoit, Drew Smyly, Doug Fister Luke Putkonen and Jose Ortega along with outfielder Andy Dirks and catcher Brayan Pena served as celebrity waiters. Proceeds from the fun event benefited the Detroit Tigers Foundation, an affiliate of Ilitch Charities as well as Orange Hearts, a charitable organization supported by Joaquin Benoit which seeks to benefit children in vulnerable communities in Latin America. The event gave Tigers fans the opportunity to interact with their favorite Tigers players while supporting a great cause!
