Joe Morgan was welcomed into the Astros Walk of Fame on Friday. The third player inducted this season, Morgan spent 10 seasons in Houston (1963-71, '80) -- first with the Colt .45's, then with the Astros.
“I got more famous as I went to Cincinnati," he said. "But as I've said to people all of the time, I actually learned to play baseball right here in Houston.”
Although Morgan was selected to 10 All-Star games, won two World Series and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1990, Morgan named his Major League debut with the Colt .45's in 1963 as his greatest moment in sports.
"As a kid, I didn’t grow up dreaming about making it to the Hall of Fame," he said. "I didn’t dream about playing for the Reds or anyone else. I just wanted to make it to the Major Leagues. This was my first team. I’ll never forget my first few years here in Houston.
