Chicago Cubs and the PrivateBank to host August 30 Andre Dawson Day at Wrigley Field08/18/2010 12:47 PM ET
CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs and The PrivateBank have announced "Andre Dawson Day" at Wrigley Field, taking place August 30, 2010 in honor of recent Major League Baseball Hall of Fame inductee and former Cubs outfielder Andre Dawson.
The Cubs will present a special gift to "The Hawk" and recognize him during an on-field ceremony before the team's 7:05 p.m. game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. In addition to the ceremony at Wrigley Field, Mayor Daley has officially proclaimed August 30, 2010 as "Andre Dawson Day" in Chicago. Finally, the first 10,000 fans entering the ballpark on August 30 will receive a commemorative Andre Dawson ball cap, compliments of The PrivateBank.
"The Cubs are incredibly proud of Andre for his Hall of Fame induction," said Wally Hayward, EVP, chief sales and marketing officer, Chicago Cubs. "Andre showed so much love for the Chicago Cubs and our fans in his acceptance speech. We're excited to show him that the feeling is mutual."
"As Chicago's hometown commercial bank, we are thrilled to be honoring one of Chicago's great legends, Andre Dawson," said Brant Ahrens, chief operating officer, The PrivateBank. "We are proud to be part of this special day with Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field to recognize Andre's Hall of Fame induction and to celebrate all of his achievements throughout his career. His tenacity and work ethic sparked fear in his opponents and served as an inspiration for countless baseball fans over the years."
Dawson was elected to the MLB Hall of Fame in January and inducted on July 25 after being named to eight All-Star teams and winning eight Gold Glove Awards in the outfield during his 21-year big league career. Dawson won the 1977 National League Rookie of the Year Award with the Montreal Expos and was named the 1987 National League Most Valuable Player while playing with the Cubs.
Cubs fans may still purchase tickets to the August 30 game by visiting www.cubs.com. Fans should prepare to be in their seats before 6:40 p.m. CT in order to watch the pregame ceremony.
