Cubs trade infielder Ryan Freel to Kansas City for player to be named

CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today traded infielder Ryan Freel to the Kansas City Royals for a player to be named.

Freel was designated for assignment by the Cubs on July 2. In 14 games with Chicago, Freel batted .143 (4-for-28) with one run scored and one RBI.

The Cubs originally acquired Freel from Baltimore for outfielder Joey Gathright on May 8.
