HOUSTON -- The Chicago Cubs today recalled infielder Micah Hoffpauir from Triple-A Iowa. In addition, right-handed pitcher Jon Lieber was placed on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to July 11) with a right foot strain.

Hoffpauir will wear uniform No. 6 and is available for tonight's game against the Astros at Minute Maid Park.

The 28-year-old left-handed hitter begins his third stint with the Cubs, having batted .400 (14-for-35) with six doubles, one RBI and eight runs scored in 18 games at the big league level. He made his Major League debut May 18 vs. Pittsburgh and collected his first career hit May 21 at Houston, going 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a run while starting in left field.

Originally selected by Chicago in the 13th round of the 2002 Draft, Hoffpauir has appeared in four games at first base and three games in left field. As a pinch-hitter, he has gone 2-for-7 (.286) with an RBI and a walk.

In 36 games with the Iowa Cubs, Hoffpauir has batted .358 (53-for-148) with 11 homers and 52 RBI after missing the first month of the season with a strained left oblique. He has hit .358 (38-for-106) against right-handers and .357 (15-for-42) off southpaws at the Triple-A level. Hoffpauir has batted .451 (23-for-51) with runners in scoring position and .468 (36-for-77) with runners on base.

Lieber, 38, has gone 2-3 with a 3.43 ERA (17 ER/44.2 IP) in 25 games for Chicago this year, his first with the club since pitching for the organization from 1999-2002. He has compiled a 2.53 ERA (12 ER/42.2 IP) in 24 relief outings on the season and made his 400th career appearance July 10 vs. Cincinnati.
