Ryan Dempster joins Swinging for Sight campaign 03/15/2007 5:42 PM ETMLB.com
SACRAMENTO -- The 1st Touch Foundation is thrilled to announce that Cubs' Pitcher Ryan Dempster is joining Derrek Lee's Swinging for Sight Fundraising Campaign. Through Swinging for Sight, Dempster has pledged to donate $50,000 along with $1,000 per save he makes throughout the 2007 season to PROJECT 3000. Funds raised will support Lee's efforts to find a cure for Lebers Congenital Amaurosis (LCA). The closer has converted a club record 26 consecutive save situations dating back to last season - the longest current streak in the Majors. "As players we are always asked to do different things for charities and it can be hard to choose." Ryan Dempster said. "For me, this choice was easy. I have known Jada since she was a baby and I am happy to do anything that I can to help find a cure for LCA. Hopefully Swinging for Sight is something that we can get other players and the league involved in." Dempster is the second teammate of Lee's to lend support through Swinging for Sight. In a press conference earlier this month, Michael Barrett announced that he is donating $50,000 and additional $10,000 for every home run he hits in 2007.
