Derrek Lee announces "Project 3000" 09/29/2006 11:51 AM ETMLB.com
The Chicago Cubs' Derrek Lee today announced that he has teamed up with Boston Celtics lead owner Wyc Grousbeck to help create a foundation to fight a disease that has affected both of their families, Leber's Congenital Amaurosis. Leber's Congenital Amaurosis, or LCA, is an inherited form of blindness that is usually apparent shortly after birth. Their effort, entitled "Project 3000," includes a plan to raise money to provide state-of-the-art genetic testing for every man, woman and child in the United States with LCA - about 3,000 individuals in all. For more information on LCA and "Project 3000" log on to www.carverlab.org/project3000. This story was not subject to the approval of Major League Baseball or its clubs.
