Jim O'Toole was born James Jerome O'Toole on Jan. 10, 1937, in Chicago. He came to the Reds after only one Minor League season with the 1958 Nashville Vols, for which he paced the club in wins, innings pitched, strikeouts and bases on balls. O'Toole was a large contributor to the Reds' pennant win in 1961. He posted the second-best winning percentage in the National League with a record of 19-9 to complement a 3.10 ERA that year. Between 1960-64, he won a total of 81 games for the Reds. From 1958-66, O-Toole went 94-81 with an ERA of 3.59 for the Reds. In 1963, he was elected to the NL All-Star team. He left to play his final season with the Chicago White Sox, his hometown team.
