Cubs Wives Food Drive
The Chicago Cubs wives hosted a food drive at Wrigley Field on Saturday, August 29, 2009. This annual food drive is a major contributor to the Lakeview Pantry. Since its inception in 2003, the event has helped raise more than 75,000 pounds of food. The Cubs are proud to support the tremendous work of the Lakeview Pantry.
Fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable items such as: tuna, canned pastas, cereal or oatmeal, coffee, peanut butter, jelly, canned stews and meats (including Spam), soup, canned and packaged fruits and vegetables.
Lakeview Pantry, founded in 1970, distributes more than one million pounds of food each year to individuals in need in the Lakeview community. In addition to providing groceries, the Pantry also helps clients address issues that often lead to food insecurity, such as unemployment and housing instability. Every month more than 2,400 individuals are served through its two distribution centers, home delivery program, case management services and clothing distribution. Lakeview Pantry has received support from Cubs Care grants for the past 17 years.
